5 in. Shell Nose Cap (11A11)
This object was found on the wreck of the James Eagan Layne and is thought to be the nose cap from a projectile for the 5 inch gun mounted on the stern. The cap is hollow, is finely threaded on the inside and has lugs on the outside so it can be unscrewed by hand.
