Millbay Guns

Three guns were recovered from the seabed off Millbay by salvor Silas Oates in 1968. Unfortunately at that time the guns were the subject of a survey being undertaken by Alan Bax and the Plymouth Sound BSAC. The guns were brought to the South Yard of the dockyard and were found to be of the type called Finbankers produced in Sweden dated from the later part of the 17th century. The trunnions had the mark 'F' associating them with the gunfoundry in Finspong, Sweden.

The guns were stored in fresh water for 16 months but as no funds were available for conservation they ended up buried beneath a new building in the dockyard.
