Scuttled Schooners

Tacky's Tugs, by Capt. Steven Carter, Twelveheads Press, p57

'Close to Jupiter Point, on the river Lynher, near Saltash, lay three schooner hulks that had been abandoned on the foreshore, and filled with water every tide. The Admiralty decided that they had to be moved as they could be come a possible obstruction with increased shipping on the run up to the D-Day landings. Reynolds got the job of moving them. Firstly the shipwrights had to patch up the hulks enough to make them float again; then each had to be towed to Barnpool and scuttled out of the way.'
